Lagos Welcomes New Commissioner of Police: CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale Takes Charge


Lagos State has a new Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, who has officially assumed his role as the 40th Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command. He succeeds CP Adegoke Fayoade, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and has taken up his new post at the AIG Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.

According to a statement issued by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Command, CP Ishola's journey in the Nigeria Police Force began in 1992 when he was appointed as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Ibadan. Throughout his career, he has undergone extensive training, including courses in Tactical Leadership and Command at the Police Staff College in Jos and Strategic Leadership at the National Institute of Police Studies in Abuja.

CP Ishola has held a variety of significant roles, both operational and administrative, where he has been instrumental in maintaining law and order in some of Nigeria’s most demanding environments. His notable positions include:

**January 1996 – July 2002**  
- Unit Commander/Second-in-Command, 20 PMF Ikeja  

August 2002 – July 2005
- Second-in-Command, 23 PMF Lagos

⁃2013 Nigeria police academy Kano

⁃2019-2021 Police staff College Jos

Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Roles
CP Ishola has also served as DPO in various divisions across the country:  
- DPO Sabongida Ora, Edo State  
- DPO Iguenben, Edo State  
- DPO Igbeba Division, Ogun State  
- DPO Ibara Division, Ogun State  

**In Lagos, he was a veteran DPO in seven challenging areas:**  
- DPO Gowon Estate  
- DPO Ibeju Lekki Elemoro  
- DPO Ajah  
- DPO Trinity  
- DPO Apapa  
- DPO Ajao Estate  
- DPO Mushin  

**Leadership Roles**  
- Area Commander, Edo North, Auchi  
- Area Commander, 'L' Ilashe, Lagos  
- Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations, Zone 2 Lagos  
- Most recently, CP of Port Authority Police-Western Port, Lagos  

CP Ishola’s decades of experience in Lagos, coupled with his involvement in resolving significant crises such as the OPC Idi Araba and Abule Egba conflicts, have earned him a reputation as a tactical leader with deep knowledge of Lagos' security challenges.

As CP Ishola steps into his new role, he aims to enhance security, foster trust within the community, and bring about reforms that will benefit the state. The Lagos State Command encourages all residents to support him in his mission to maintain law and order.

SP Hundeyin also shared that the new Commissioner is happily married with three children and a grandchild.
