Lady wrongly arrested for armed robbery released

An 18-year-old lady identified as Beauty Obi has narrated the story of how she was wrongly arrested after her boyfriend was accused of armed robbery. In an interview with newsmen after her release yesterday, Beauty revealed that the police arrested her and her lover after they went to sell a stolen phone in the market. She said she was pregnant when she was arrested by the police and sent to prison.

Claiming she was unaware of how her man got the phone, Obi insisted that she was innocent of the armed robbery charge slammed against her. She thanked the judge for setting her free and giving her financial support of N20,000. She said she delivered the baby through a caesarian section and the baby spent about 1 week in the hospital before they were discharged.

According to the comptroller general of the prison, Edo Lucky, the prison was charged N1000 for every hour the baby spent on admission.

"When young Miss Beauty was due for delivery, she was taken to the Warri Central hospital, where she gave birth through a caesarian session, but the little child was placed in an incubator for one week before being reunited with the mother in custody. The one week the child spent in the incubator the prison authority was spending N1000 hourly." She stated.
