Ogun State Initiates Green Transportation and Cash Palliative Scheme to Counter Fuel Subsidy Removal"

In a bold move to offset the impact of fuel subsidy removal in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has unveiled a comprehensive plan to transition buses from diesel to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This ambitious conversion project not only covers state-owned mass transit buses but also extends to privately owned minibuses, with the government bearing the associated costs. The initiative aims to alleviate the burden of increased fuel prices and promote a more eco-friendly transportation system across the state.

In addition to the transportation overhaul, the state government has introduced a timely cash palliative program. Commencing from July, the initiative will provide a monthly allowance of N10,000 to public servants in Ogun State. The scheme was developed in consultation with prominent labor unions, including TUC, JNC, and NLC, ensuring that the relief reaches those who rely on daily commutes, such as civil servants and pensioners. The non-pensionable allowance will complement their basic salary and other benefits, offering much-needed financial support during these challenging times.

Governor Abiodun's vision is to impact around 280,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries through the cash palliative scheme. He also calls upon the private sector to follow suit by introducing similar measures to support their employees during this period of economic transition. The state government remains committed to addressing the needs of individuals beyond the public service, with a range of provisions detailed in their comprehensive intervention plans.

With these transformative steps, Ogun State is setting an inspiring example of sustainable governance and compassionate leadership, forging a path towards a greener and more equitable future for all its citizens.
