Nationwide #FearlessInOctober Protest Announced for October 1 Against Economic Hardship Under Tinubu’s Government

A new wave of nationwide protests, labeled #FearlessInOctober, has been announced for October 1, as Nigerians prepare to voice their frustration over the growing economic difficulties under President Bola Tinubu's leadership.

The Take-It-Back Movement, a pro-democracy group, released a statement on Tuesday urging citizens to stand together against economic oppression and corruption, which they claim have worsened under Tinubu’s administration. The group specifically criticized the rising cost of living and described the president's policies as the driving force behind the country's financial hardships.

The statement emphasized, "Nigerians must unite. General Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a symbol of hardship and corruption, has taken control. Join us on October 1 for the #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria2.0 protest as we fight for a better future and an end to oppressive governance."

The upcoming demonstration comes in response to the surging fuel prices that have significantly impacted the economy. Since the removal of petrol subsidies in May 2023, fuel prices have more than tripled, adding immense strain to Nigerians who rely on petrol for transportation and electricity generation.

This latest protest follows earlier demonstrations from August 1 to August 10, 2024, when Nigerians took to the streets to protest the escalating cost of living.
