Death Tool rise to 8 in the Kano mosque attack

The death toll from the tragic Gezawa Mosque attack in Kano State has climbed to eight, with 17 individuals still in critical condition and undergoing treatment, according to recent updates.

Confirming the sad development, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, stated that seven more victims passed away while receiving medical attention at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

The incident stemmed from a family dispute over inheritance, allegedly instigated by a 38-year-old suspect, Shafiu Abubakar. It was reported that Abubakar, in an act of arson, doused the mosque with petroleum, locked the doors, and set it ablaze, trapping around 40 worshippers inside.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the victims succumbed to injuries sustained during the tragic event. Currently, 17 individuals are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

A delegation led by AIG Umar Mamman Sanda, comprising security personnel such as the Commissioner of Police in the State and the Director of DSS, visited the victims at the hospital. AIG Sanda clarified that the incident was not linked to terrorism but rather arose from a dispute over inheritance distribution. The suspect, now in police custody, allegedly used a locally made bomb in the commission of the crime.
